Enugu Rangers have issued a statement in response to Moses Simon’s recent comments regarding his departure from the club during a trial due to his ethnic background. The Super Eagles winger shared this assertion in an interview on Urban Dwell, with a video released on Friday, 10 July 2026.

The club has strongly rejected Simon’s claims, emphasizing that Rangers International has never operated under any discriminatory practices related to ethnicity, tribe, religion, or origin.
Here is the complete statement released on their official Facebook page:
Rangers International Football Club has noted the comments made by Super Eagles star Moses Simon regarding his experience at a club trial several years ago.
While we respect every player’s individual narrative, it is crucial to clarify that Rangers International FC has never had, and does not have, any policy that discriminates based on ethnicity, tribe, religion, or origin.
For over fifty years, Rangers has been a leading football institution in Nigeria. Although deeply connected to Enugu and the South East, the club represents all of Nigeria. Throughout its illustrious history, Rangers has welcomed players, coaches, and officials from almost every region of the country and beyond, all striving towards one goal: excellence on the sports field.
The club’s approach to recruitment has consistently prioritized footballing skill, character, discipline, and dedication—not ethnic background. Many players have come through Rangers over the years; some secured contracts while others did not. Such outcomes are inherent in football and are guided by various sporting, technical, and administrative factors. Thus, it is misleading to label Rangers as an organization that discriminates based on ethnic identity.
Moreover, present-day Rangers has reinforced its commitment to professionalism, meritocracy, diversity, and inclusion. Our men’s, women’s, and youth teams continue to embrace talented players from every corner of Nigeria and beyond, underscoring the belief that football serves to unite rather than separate.
Rangers is dedicated to offering equal opportunities to all skilled players regardless of their ethnic background, religion, or geographic origin. The values that characterize this remarkable club include excellence, integrity, discipline, hard work, and unity.
As one of Nigeria’s storied football institutions, Rangers will continue to represent an emblem of national unity, where talent prevails over tribal affiliations and performance is the key determinant for opportunities.
Never Say Die.
Softfootball reports that the statement was signed by the club’s General Manager/CEO, Amobi Ezeaku, Esq., on Friday, 10 July 2026.
