Arsenal is on track to finalize the permanent transfer of Piero Hincapié in June, with the move from Bayer Leverkusen considered a certainty.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano shared on his official x handle that the arrangement was structured as a loan initially due to Financial Fair Play regulations, but it has always been viewed as a permanent transfer.
Arsenal will turn Piero Hincapié deal into permanent in June, never in doubt. Deal was structured on initial loan for FFP reasons but always seen as permanent, similar to Raya deal in the past. Fee to Bayer Leverkusen from #AFC: €52m plus 10% sell-on clause.
The finalized deal will see Arsenal pay €52 million for the defender, with Leverkusen also receiving a 10 percent sell-on clause included in the agreement.

Softfootball previously reported that Hincapié joined Mikel Arteta’s squad during the season as Arsenal aimed to enhance their defensive options while forming plans for the future. His addition has brought further flexibility to the defense, with the Ecuadorian adept at playing both center-back and left-back.
New information regarding the transfer explains the initial loan structure, which allowed Arsenal to manage their financial responsibilities in line with Financial Fair Play rules before officially making the transfer permanent.
This method is akin to how David Raya’s transfer to Arsenal was executed, starting as a loan before becoming a finalized deal. Such arrangements are increasingly part of the club’s comprehensive recruitment approach under Arteta and the current sporting framework.
Hincapié’s technical ability, poise in possession, and tactical versatility align well with the profile Arsenal has sought in recent seasons. The club is focusing on players capable of fitting into Arteta’s positional system, particularly those at an optimal stage of their careers.

Securing the permanent signing of the Ecuador international would be another significant advancement in Arsenal’s overarching squad development objectives as they work toward creating a team capable of contending for key titles both domestically and in Europe.
This update follows closely after Arsenal achieved a 2–1 win against Mansfield Town to move forward in the FA Cup. The first goal came in the 41st minute when Noni Madueke scored, assisted by Gabriel Martinelli. This goal also represented Arsenal’s 100th goal of the season across various competitions.
