It is designed to be a focal point for the local basketball community, uniting enthusiasts, youth, and visitors at this inspiring seaside site. Recent enhancements include the addition of an integrated scoreboard, a new storage facility, and fencing around the perimeter to elevate the experience for both players and fans while ensuring the court’s upkeep. The opening ceremony will be followed by the championship of the BAL City Run, a neighborhood basketball competition featuring twelve local teams.
Guédiawaye, Senegal (Qatar Foundation) – Oct. 30: Inaugurating the first BAL4HER court in Africa, the refurbished indoor venue represents a commitment to promoting opportunities for women and girls in basketball and beyond. This multi-sport facility will accommodate basketball, volleyball, and handball and will feature improved lighting, locker rooms, restrooms, and meeting spaces. It aims to advance gender equality and will also serve as a center for learning and personal development, including spaces for leadership workshops, life skills training, educational activities, and health and nutrition initiatives.
Owerri, Nigeria (Qatar Foundation) – December: This will be the second BAL4HER court in Africa, with the opening event backed by two-time WNBA All-Star and BAL Ambassador Chiney Ogwumike along with her nonprofit organization, Queens of the Continent. The facility currently engages over 300 participants across Imo State. Planned improvements such as revamped locker rooms and restrooms, better lighting, and upgraded drainage will help transform this gathering point into a dedicated space for organized sports, youth development, and community involvement.
