Nicolas Jackson is confirmed to return to Chelsea in June after Bayern Munich opted not to exercise the €65 million purchase option in his loan agreement.
This information was provided by Bayern director Max Eberl, who clarified that the club will not be making Jackson’s transfer permanent. This decision comes in line with earlier reports indicating that Bayern were unlikely to activate the clause, despite signing Jackson to bolster their offensive lineup.
Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano also shared this information through his X handle, affirming:
“Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea in June as Bayern are NOT triggering €65m buy option clause. Bayern director Eberl confirms the decision to ZDF as reported since January. ❌ Chelsea and Jackson’s camp will assess his future with possible new move in the summer.”
Jackson’s experience in Germany has drawn significant attention, particularly given the high expectations following his transition from Chelsea. At the time, Bayern had facilitated a loan deal with hopes that he would enhance their forward capabilities. However, the club has now opted for a different strategy.

Upon returning to Chelsea, his absence has had various impacts. Cole Palmer, who has emerged as a key player, has reportedly modified his style of play without a reliable striker in front of him.
Jackson’s ability to make runs and create space for defenders added a much-needed dynamic element to Chelsea’s attack, and his absence has at times disrupted the team’s offensive fluidity.
With Jackson expected to rejoin, Chelsea and the player’s representatives will evaluate the next steps. A new transfer or another loan deal in the coming summer is likely as both parties consider his development and long-term position.

Softfootball notes that this situation highlights a larger uncertainty regarding Chelsea’s attacking setup, with significant decisions anticipated in the summer as the club aims to restructure its forward options and achieve the right balance for the upcoming season.
