GREATER LETABA: Greater Letaba Municipality has marked a significant milestone with the election of Councillor Rosina Ramalatso as its inaugural female Mayor.
Ramalatso was chosen unopposed during a special council meeting convened at the municipal council chambers on Tuesday, following the resignation of her predecessor, Dagma Mamanyoha.
Her election was celebrated with cheers and excitement from fellow councillors, highlighting a pivotal moment in the political landscape of the municipality.
Mamanyoha resigned from her role as both Mayor and municipal council member, consequently creating a leadership vacancy.
Ramalatso enters the mayoral role with a strong background in local government, having previously held positions as council whip and speaker, before advancing to the Executive Committee (EXCO).
Additionally, she has held leadership positions within the African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League, reportedly serving three terms as Regional Secretary in the Norman Mashabane Region.
Her election signifies an important leadership change within the municipality and has broader implications for the political dynamics in Mopani.
Following his departure from Greater Letaba, Mamanyoha is anticipated to assume the role of Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality.
In related developments, former EXCO member Councillor Regina Maake was also elected unopposed as the new council whip.
The appointments of Ramalatso and Maake have been positively received by councillors, as both women advance to crucial political leadership roles within the municipality.
Ramalatso is now tasked with guiding Greater Letaba and ensuring the implementation of council priorities, including service delivery initiatives and other programs.
Her leadership role also positions her to navigate the municipality through the remainder of the political term, in light of the changes initiated by Mamanyoha’s exit.
