Businessman Brown Mogotsi from North West has been taken into custody, accused of orchestrating a fake assassination attempt in Vosloorus, located east of Johannesburg.
Mogotsi faces charges related to obstructing the course of justice.
This arrest followed his testimony at the Madlanga Commission.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the National SAPS, reported that a specialized SAPS team executed a J50 arrest warrant on Friday night.
According to Mathe, the case originated from allegations surrounding the staging of an assassination attempt on Mogotsi in Vosloorus.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the firearm used in the commission of the crime has also been linked to other serious and violent crimes, including cases of murder and attempted murder,” Mathe stated.
Mogotsi is scheduled to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Previously, police indicated that if inquiries determined the attempted assassination was fabricated, charges for obstructing justice could be applicable.
The investigation is still ongoing.
