Softfootball reports that Manchester United’s interim manager, Michael Carrick, has expressed significant support for young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. Carrick described Mainoo as an exemplary illustration of the homegrown talent fundamental to Manchester United’s identity.
During his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League match against Arsenal, Carrick emphasized the crucial role of youth development and academy graduates in the club’s strategic vision. This information was noted by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.

He noted:
Michael Carrick on Kobbie Mainoo: This club needs young players coming through. They’re the FOUNDATION of the club. You’ve seen last week what Kobbie can bring! I started working with Kobbie when he was 13 or 14 years old when I was doing my badges.
Carrick, who had a spell as caretaker manager in 2021, highlighted that developing around academy talent goes beyond mere sentiment. He views it as essential for preserving United’s culture and ensuring future competitiveness.
He pointed out Mainoo’s swift ascent and his ability to remain composed in high-pressure circumstances as evidence of his talent, both technically and psychologically.

The interim manager also mentioned his long-standing connection with Mainoo, having first worked with him when he was merely 13 or 14, while Carrick was earning his coaching qualifications. This early interaction has bolstered Carrick’s confidence in Mainoo’s abilities.
After limited opportunities under former coach Ruben Amorim, who provided Mainoo with only one Premier League start this season, the young player has found his way back into the lineup following Amorim’s departure.

Carrick included Mainoo in the starting lineup during the Manchester derby, where Manchester United achieved a solid 2-0 win over Manchester City.
This performance received positive feedback. Carrick highlighted Mainoo’s collaboration with Casemiro, who is expected to depart Manchester United at the conclusion of the season, praising their midfield partnership as a strong basis for the victory.
Carrick’s support for Mainoo, reminiscent of earlier sentiments from Sir Alex Ferguson, indicates a renewed commitment from the organization to nurture young players, with Mainoo becoming increasingly integral to United’s tactical framework.
