The British rock group Coldplay might be poised to make a comeback in South Africa in 2027, as lead vocalist Chris Martin hinted at future performances in southern Africa during the concluding segment of their Music of the Spheres global tour.
Beginning in March 2022, the tour has emerged as one of the largest in music history, captivating over 13 million fans during 211 shows and accumulating more than R25 billion in ticket sales.
Coldplay’s last appearance in South Africa was in 2011, with performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Elevated expectations among Coldplay enthusiasts
During an event at Wembley Stadium in London, Martin confirmed the continuation of the tour in 2027, with an extra 138 performances scheduled.

Though specific venues and dates have yet to be disclosed, the mention of southern Africa has sparked optimism among regional fans that South Africa could be featured in the upcoming itinerary.
If included, this tour could signify a remarkable return for the band and potentially surpass Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as the highest-grossing tour ever.
For the time being, South African admirers will need to await official announcements, but indications point to a long-anticipated Coldplay comeback being near.
Recently, Martin and his partner Dakota Johnson ended their on-and-off eight-year relationship in June.
