Police Sweep Uncovers Stolen Goods Ring, Two Arrested

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is actively engaging in efforts to eliminate the trade of illegal and stolen goods from local communities. On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, officers from the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) arrested two individuals following a focused operation, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected stolen electronic items.

This operation stemmed from an intelligence-driven investigation concerning the possession of potentially stolen merchandise. Officers traced a female suspect to the Flora Shopping Centre, where she was apprehended while allegedly trying to find a buyer for several items.

The probe further directed officers to a workplace in Northcliff, resulting in the arrest of a male suspect, from whom a number of suspected stolen items, including mobile phones, were retrieved.

Further investigations uncovered additional stolen goods stored at a residential property. Officers proceeded to Witpoortjie, Roodepoort, where they successfully seized laptops, smart TVs, and several mobile phones.

Despite the recovery of numerous items, it became clear that some of the stolen merchandise had been sold at various locations before law enforcement arrived.

Both suspects now face formal charges for possession of suspected stolen goods.

The JMPD will persist in its collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure that individuals who benefit from the theft of property are held accountable.
