As Amapiano continues to lead the music scene in South Africa and make strides in international markets, KMat emphasizes that the genre’s strength is rooted in its capacity for ongoing evolution through new concepts and experimentation.

The 26-year-old artist, known asKoketso Mathabathe, recently expressed her insights on the rapidly shifting terrain of South African dance music. She attributes Amapiano’s prominence in African music partly to the willingness of its artists to stretch creative limits.

“Our dance scene is multi-dimensional. No one literally knows what the landscape will look like in the next even year because everyone is so experimental. It’s a breeding ground for innovation of sound,”she stated.

She is recognized for her high-energy DJ performances and unique production style, which fuses soulful melodies, engaging log drums, and lively rhythms that keep audiences on their feet. Her knack for marrying musical innovation with crowd engagement has positioned her as a prominent figure in a male-dominated genre.

In recent years, KMat has graced major festivals and events throughout South Africa and has garnered a dedicated fan following through her original tracks and partnerships. Amidst the evolving musical environment, she is committed to remaining true to her artistic vision.

“I know my core, but I evolve as well. It’s important for one to stay relevant. I just try to incorporate my core elements as well,”she elaborated.

In addition to her work in Amapiano, KMat is keen to seek out new creative avenues through collaborations with artists from other genres. She has expressed particular interest in working withGqom, another significant genre in South African dance music.

“Yes, I love Gqom and I’d love to work with the guys in that scene,”she noted, hinting at promising future cross-genre collaborations.

Fans can also anticipate her return toJägermeister Haus of Kühl, where she intends to deliver another memorable performance.

“I always strive to be electrifying and engulf people into the music. I want to paint out an electrifying journey,”she remarked.
