DJ Tira announces the end of FACT

DJ Tira, whose real name is Mthokozi Khathi, has made an announcement regarding the future of the annual FACT Durban Rocks festival.

<p In a message shared on social media, the head of Afrotainment indicated that the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration will be the final one organized by the current team, with plans for the brand to go on sale in January 2026.

In his communication, Tira cited prolonged public concerns regarding the city’s early closing times for New Year’s Eve events as a reason for this decision.

He noted that the organizing team had been observing the situation closely before reaching a conclusion.

“Since July, we have received many concerns about us closing early at midnight for NYE, and we understand those sentiments. We wanted to observe how the response would be regarding the New Year’s Eve closing times from the city before determining our next steps.”

Reflecting on the event’s history, Tira acknowledged FACT’s lengthy tradition, mentioning that it has taken place from 6 PM to 6 AM twice yearly since 2011.

He also recognized the event’s ability to adapt, stating they were “the first brand to emerge from COVID with two picnics and the only event to host two outdoor broadcasts during that challenging period.”

This year’s December event will mark the 30th installment of FACT, which Tira referred to as an important milestone and an ideal opportunity for new talent to step in.

“This New Year’s Eve will be the final event organized by the current partners. In January 2026, the FACT brand and its trademarks will be put up for sale.”

Tira expressed his deep appreciation to the fans, sponsors, and supporters who have sustained the brand for over ten years.

He acknowledged the city, the province, partners such as SAB and Schweppes, and the dedicated attendees who participated “through rain or shine” and embraced the late-night custom that became synonymous with the event.

He concluded his statement with a genuine message to the community that helped establish FACT Durban Rocks as one of the country’s premier year-end celebrations.

“Thank you for being part of our journey. It has been an honor to serve this community of Fact Fans and hopefully we see you for one more time.”

The final FACT Durban Rocks will occur on 31 December, from 2 PM to 2 AM, with the theme #OneLastFact.
