Galatasaray has announced the acquisition of French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Burnley on a season-long loan. This confirmation comes shortly after Softfootball reported that the transfer was close to finalization.
The Turkish club disclosed that the loan involves a fee of £3 million and a conditional option for a permanent transfer valued at £22.5 million, which could be triggered based on the midfielder’s appearances during the 2026/27 season.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ugochukwu will receive a fixed annual salary of €2.65 million as he embarks on this new venture in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Earlier reports indicated that the 22-year-old was close to making a permanent transfer to Galatasaray, with only the final details to finalize. The club has now confirmed the loan deal, and Ugochukwu has already participated in his first training session to acclimatize to Okan Buruk’s team.
At 1.90 meters tall, Ugochukwu arrives with substantial experience from clubs such as Rennes, Chelsea, and Burnley. His reputation for physical robustness, ability to win the ball, and calmness in midfield is expected to bolster Galatasaray’s defensive lineup as the club competes in both domestic leagues and European tournaments.
Additionally, Ugochukwu remains eligible to play for Nigeria at the international level, despite having represented France at youth competitions, which adds an interesting dimension to his career trajectory.
Galatasaray considers Ugochukwu a key player for its roster, and the conditional purchase clause provides the club an option to acquire him permanently, should he meet performance expectations in the approaching season.
