iFani Calls For Eastern Cape Female MCs As EC vs KZN Cypher Hits Round 4. Eastern Cape hip-hop veteran iFani is urging the local hip-hop scene to help discover more female rappers as the EC vs KZN Cypher moves into its fourth round, where a Heavyweight will join the competition.
iFani Calls For Eastern Cape Female MCs As EC vs KZN Cypher Hits Round 4The “Shake” hitmaker turned to Instagram to ask fans for their suggestions, noting that Yara Lane and Nomalanga have already made his list. “EC: Please give me Female MCs names 🙏🏽,” he wrote. “We need more female rappers zase Eastern Cape to join our Cypher. Please help 🙏🏽.”
iFani encouraged his followers to spread the word to help locate talented female MCs from the region. This latest recruitment effort is part of the preparatory phase for the Eastern Cape team, which will face off against KwaZulu-Natal in a hip-hop battle led by Zakwe from the KZN side.
Among the artists previously nominated is Nomalanga, while Yara Lane, a rapper from Mthatha known for her Xhosa lyricism and poetic style, has also been confirmed as a participant. Her works include “Phakathi.”
The ongoing search for female rappers highlights iFani’s commitment to diversifying the Eastern Cape lineup and providing more opportunities for women to display their skills. This recruitment drive aims to address the gaps caused by earlier withdrawals, making new nominations essential for a stronger provincial group.
According to iFani, Round 4 is set to include a Heavyweight, which adds another layer of excitement to the competition. The EC vs KZN Cypher engages MCs from both provinces in successive rounds, prioritizing lyrical talent, regional dialects, and provincial pride. The initiative receives media backing from TruFM, while Nasty Energy Drink is supporting the Eastern Cape team.
In addition to the cypher, iFani spoke about an event in KuGompo, previously known as East London, scheduled for 31 October. He expressed regret about the circumstances, stating that it was “really out of my control.”
As the fourth round approaches, iFani’s search for additional female MCs remains crucial for the Eastern Cape team’s preparation. With Yara Lane and Nomalanga already identified, the appeal creates opportunities for more women to secure their place in a cypher that continues to highlight the region’s hip-hop talent.
