Mawhoo, a prominent figure in South Africa’s Amapiano scene, has spoken out regarding her strained relationship with fellow artist Naledi Aphiwe. This revelation comes in the wake of widespread speculation among fans about the cause of their discord. During an interview with Selbeyonce on Gagasi FM, Mawhoo shed light on the circumstances that have created distance between the two artists from KwaZulu-Natal.
A portion of the interview was shared on social media by @PianoConnectSA, where Mawhoo detailed the transition from friendship to animosity. She noted that her relationship with Naledi was positive at the start and even led to plans for a musical collaboration. “When our relationship started, everything was fine. We even did a song together, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out,” she stated.
However, the situation reportedly took a turn following an incident involving Mawhoo’s sister, Amahle. Mawhoo recounted that both she and Naledi were scheduled to perform at an event hosted by her sister, where tensions arose when Naledi attempted to bring in numerous guests without tickets.
“I remember my sister was hosting an event, and she was also booked. The drama began when she wanted to get almost 12 people in who didn’t buy tickets. A lot was going on,” Mawhoo recalled. “And then the following day, when my sister demanded her refund, Naledi started swearing and insulting uAmahle. Yoh, I can’t even repeat the things she said because she also spoke ill about my sister’s dead child. It got bad.”
Mawhoo expressed that the derogatory remarks aimed at her sister took a significant emotional toll on her, prompting her to sever ties with Naledi. “After that, she started trashing me too. That’s when I told myself that I’m not going to entertain her anymore. I just distanced myself,” Mawhoo explained.
This disclosure has ignited a lively conversation among fans, many of whom expressed sorrow that these two talented artists from KZN have found themselves at odds instead of working together. Notwithstanding the controversy, Mawhoo remains dedicated to her music and her position as a key contributor to the Amapiano genre.
While supporters hope for a future reconciliation between the two musicians, it appears that the divide between Mawhoo and Naledi Aphiwe is significant—a reminder that not all friendships within the industry endure the pressures of fame and misunderstandings.
