In a conversation with To The Max Brand Management, Kamo Mphela’s father, Onitias Mphela, explored multiple dimensions of his daughter’s professional journey, emphasizing his involvement not merely as a father but also as a calculated business ally. The dialogue covered both the difficulties and successes of maneuvering through the entertainment sphere, during which the topic of provocative lyrics was raised.
He recounted an instance where one individual approached him, inquiring if he was at ease with the subject matter his daughter was rapping about in her track.
“Another guy came to me and asked me if I am comfortable with the lyrics of the song, as the song is Jobe unginika kamnandi?”
Mr Mphela replied, “What does that mean? Why should I not be comfortable with it? It is a song where she is an artist, she’s allowed to express herself.”
During the discussion, JR backed Mr. Mphela’s perspective, reinforcing that he ought to feel at ease, given his own experience in the industry.
Kamo’s father further expressed that the track is melodious and does not carry any harmful language or overly explicit content, in contrast to some international Hip-Hop artists.
“Guys, it sounds nice to the ears, she is not swearing at anyone, she is not being explicit with the lyrics like your Hip-Hop artist overseas.”
He continued by highlighting that Kamo was so at ease with the lyrics that she didn’t even check in with him regarding her song’s content. Mr Mphela clarified that while he recognizes the song has sexual undertones, it is neither explicit nor disrespectful.
“I am glad that she was comfortable with me, and she did not even bother to ask eish baba are you okay with Jobe unginika kamnandi.”
Ultimately, the song achieved significant success, amassing over a million views on YouTube. Beyond the platform, the “Jobe” challenge became a viral sensation on social media sites like TikTok and Instagram, showcasing the song’s cultural significance. It turned into a widespread trend, with millions engaging in content creation linked to the track.
