  • Katlego Maboe, a well-known TV host in South Africa, has alerted the public about investment scams following the emergence of a doctored video featuring him.
  • He emphasized that he is not linked to the fraudulent activities and urged individuals to be cautious.
  • Responses from South Africans varied, with some expressing recognition of the video, while others commended Maboe for taking a stand.

Renowned TV personality Katlego Maboe has shared a warning with his audience regarding a scam that has been circulating online.

He follows in the footsteps of other celebrities impacted by similar fraudulent schemes, including Connie Ferguson, who recently became associated with pyramid schemes in South Africa.

Katlego Maboe warns against investment scam

The television host took to social media to address an investment scam that has personally affected him. He clarified that he did not produce the misleading video and is not connected to the business it promotes.

“A two-year-old AI video using my face is currently circulating on social media as a sponsored ad. This is NOT me. This is a SCAM!” he exclaimed.

Maboe disclosed that the scammers have exploited his likeness without authorization and warned the public against falling prey to this deception.

“DO NOT click on any links in these videos. DO NOT share your personal or financial information,” he continued.

He urged people to refrain from engaging with the videos and to report them on the respective platforms where they appear, stressing the importance of spreading awareness about their fraudulent nature.

“To my family, friends, and followers: I will NEVER ask you for money, personal information, or promote financial schemes through random sponsored videos. If something seems off, it probably is. Thank you for your vigilance and support.”

Fans respond with humor amid the situation

Here is how some fans reacted to Maboe’s warning:

Thuli Mathebula expressed gratitude:

“Thank you for the heads up.”

Connies Lallo noted:

“Funny how you’re the only one addressing this scam, and I’m happy you’re doing this. There’s Cassper’s video, Black Coffee and Somizi of the same video that I’ve seen so far.”

Sizah Portia Dlamini commented:

“My two-year-old loves you so much, Kat, on Deal or No Deal. Thank you also for the warning.”

Brenda Hawtrey inquired:

“Thank you, Kat. Why can’t they go earn an honest living. Take them to court.”

Antony Burgess remarked:

“But I’ve already sent you the money. You right? Are you relevant?”

Portia Mwelase added:

“These AI apps are taking it way too far now! Sorry, dear.”
