Kitty Amor: Embarking on a Sonic Expedition at ULTRA South Africa

wedodis April 15, 2026 5 minutes read
Kitty Amor: A Sonic Journey Through ULTRA South Africa

As excitement mounts for ULTRA South Africa, DJ and producer Kitty Amor is preparing to deliver a performance that is poised to be as impactful as it is profoundly connected to the culture that has influenced her musical style.

Kitty shares her strong bond with South Africa, her approach to crafting sets that resonate with local audiences, her new single, and what listeners can look forward to when she takes the stage at ULTRA later this month.

ULTRA South Africa will take place at the following locations:

  • Johannesburg – Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Expo Centre at Nasrec
  • Cape Town – Sunday, April 26, 2026 at The Ostrich

We’re so excited about your upcoming ULTRA South Africa performance. How excited are you to perform for South African fans this month?

South Africa feels like a second home to me. I have spent the last eight years traveling there for various performances, soaking in and understanding the ever-changing musical scene of the nation. It’s a true privilege to perform for audiences in South Africa, as their vibrant energy and passion for music continuously inspire me.

How differently do you prepare a Kitty Amor show for a London-based crowd, for example, than a South African-based one?

When I prepare for a South African audience, I always return to the roots and foundation. I pay tribute to the early days of electronic music and acknowledge how the country has significantly contributed to what is now celebrated as Afro House globally. In London, my approach is more educational, while in South Africa, I focus on recognition and respect.

There are many African influences in your music. Where did you initially fall in love with these elements?

My understanding of this music began with my own exploration, and while I was intrigued by the sound during my university days in London, it was during my first trip to Johannesburg eight years ago that I truly fell in love. Witnessing how deeply embedded Electronic Music is in the lives of South Africans was awe-inspiring. That experience transformed my connection with African Electronic Music.

ULTRA South Africa audiences are known for their energy and diversity. How does that kind of crowd influence the way you approach your set?

I find it fascinating to learn the various ways that the South African audience connects with my music. The diversity among my fans in Johannesburg and Cape Town is evident; the crowd grants me the creative freedom to guide them on an auditory adventure.

Electronic music is constantly evolving. How do you stay inspired and continue pushing your sound forward?

Traveling to different places and sharing my music keeps me inspired. Each country has its unique take on Afro House and African Electronic Music, so it’s crucial to remain attuned to what resonates where and understand what insights I can share to connect effectively with local audiences.

Tell us a little bit about your new single ‘Mean 2 Me’ with Skyla Tylaa and Ruger.

It’s fantastic! The track originated from an impromptu studio session with Skyla Tylaa and Ruger. I gained much from Ruger, especially his approach to melody creation and his assurance in songwriting. My aim was to infuse an Afro House element while adopting a commercial style that aligns with both Afrobeat and Amapiano.

Can you give us a hint of what fans can expect from your ULTRA set?

Expect a surge of energy, intensity, and a thoroughly immersive sonic journey. I will hold Afro House at the heart of my set while taking the audience through its tribal origins to contemporary melodic and techno influences. Attendees should be ready to dance non-stop, just as I plan to!

What else do you have up your sleeve for the remainder of 2026?

I prefer not to divulge too much about future plans, as I believe in allowing the universe to guide me towards great opportunities. However, to speak candidly, I have a significant amount of music on the way this year. I am boosting my solo releases and managing to find a good balance between touring and studio work. There will be more headlining shows around the globe, including South Africa, and I will continue to organize my own events at significant musical gatherings like ADE.
