Lasizwe Dambuza has launched his latest YouTube series, Nomatriquency: The Funeral, demonstrating his growth as a creative artist.
This inaugural episode signifies a significant evolution in his content production, transforming his YouTube channel into what resembles a production house.
“It’s growth. We’re not shooting on cellphones anymore,” Lasizwe explained in an interview with TshisaLIVE.
“YouTube can be taken seriously as another medium to consume content. This is about setting a new level in storytelling.”
The narrative is rooted in his own experiences and reflects a recent breakup.
“The story was inspired by my ex. I went through a horrible breakup, so this story is me grieving my ex so I can bury him and move on. I’m using my life experiences to be creative and not let them consume me,” he added.
With a background in television, Lasizwe noted the differences between YouTube production and traditional filmmaking.
“In YouTube we shoot quickly, but in film we spend hours perfecting every shot,” he said.
“Actors feel influencers are taking their jobs, so I decided to empower influencers who want to act; we’ll create our own space.”
With a subscriber count exceeding 1.14 million, Lasizwe has been dubbed the “King of YouTube.”
He attributes his success to ongoing evolution and a clear vision. “We started on cellphones, now we shoot with cinematic cameras. I want to create long-format series, something like a telenovela for YouTube that’s free for everyone to watch.”
