During the weekend, police in the Western Cape intensified their operations against drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The targeted actions uncovered various substances, including cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, mandrax, and ecstasy, in areas struggling with crime and drug abuse.
These arrests were part of Operation Prosper, a sustained initiative by the South African Police Service (SAPS) focused on dismantling the illegal drug trade and removing dealers from communities vulnerable to organized crime and gang activities.
The coordinated police actions took place in the early hours of Sunday in Bellville, Delft, and Hanover Park, resulting in significant drug seizures and the apprehension of three suspects.
Bellville suspect arrested after police act on intelligence
The most substantial drug seizure occurred in Bellville, where officers acted on intelligence regarding a person allegedly selling drugs on Uys Krige Street.
Police found an individual who matched the description, subsequently searching him and the surrounding premises.
According to SAPS, officers confiscated:
- 18 small packets of cocaine
- Three medium-sized packets of cocaine
- Two packets of crystal meth
- 30 mandrax tablets
- 30 ecstasy tablets
A 42-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges related to drug possession.
Delft operation leads to second arrest
In Delft, police conducted stop-and-search operations aimed at reducing gang violence and armed robberies in the region.
During one of these checks, authorities found a 33-year-old man in possession of four packets containing cocaine.
He was arrested on-site and is now charged with drug possession.
Hanover Park raid uncovers heroin
Police acted on information about a woman suspected of drug dealing in Surburg Walk, Hanover Park.
Upon tracing and searching her, officers allegedly found 50 units of heroin in her possession.
The 47-year-old woman was arrested and also faces charges related to drug possession.
Suspects expected in court
All three individuals are set to appear in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, facing charges associated with drug possession.
These latest arrests are part of the Western Cape SAPS’ ongoing effort to disrupt drug distribution efforts and curb the influx of illegal substances into communities affected by violence and addiction.
Authorities have encouraged citizens to continue reporting any suspected drug-related activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial for identifying and apprehending those involved in the illegal drug trade.
