Martha Stewart issued a statement to Page Six following the removal of a Halloween image in which she was dressed in ragged attire, displaying a sign that read “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!”
The renowned American lifestyle icon Martha Stewart expressed her regrets late on Sunday regarding an “insensitive and not funny” Halloween outfit, as she seemed to portray a homeless individual.
“It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up,” the 85-year-old billionaire shared on Instagram after she removed a picture depicting her in distressed jeans, a ripped sweater, and a soiled face.
Stewart was also seen holding a clipboard that stated “I Am Hungry Help Me!!” Many social media users swiftly criticized her for being disconnected from reality.
“I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry,” Stewart stated in her apology.
She further acknowledged that her prior explanation to U.S. media, which suggested her costume aimed to shed light on homelessness, “didn’t go far enough.”
Stewart has established her career in the homemaking and lifestyle sectors.
Through an array of cookbooks, magazines, television programming, and retail home goods, Stewart has become synonymous with elegant living and is regarded as America’s foremost lifestyle authority.
