South Africans have made light of musician MaWhoo’s use of English in a trending TikTok.
The award-winning artist, co-winner of the 2024 Ukhozi FM Song of the Year, recently generated attention after being romantically associated with Michael Kagiso Lerutla, the Ekurhuleni City manager who faces corruption and fraud allegations.
Following her hosting of the Secret Garden with MaWhoo event on 9 May 2026, MaWhoo expressed her thanks on TikTok to the artists and attendees who made the event successful. In her video, while blending isiZulu and English, one comment she made captured significant attention and prompted various reactions.

On Tuesday, 12 May, X (Twitter) user @ZamakonkeK initiated a dialogue around MaWhoo’s grammar and her comedic take on the feedback she received. The post was captioned:

The X user included a screenshot of MaWhoo’s exchange with TikToker @Nungu_M.
In the commentary section of MaWhoo’s video, @Nungu_M pointed out her grammatical errors, stating:
