In a remarkable moment, it appeared as though South Africa had two representative Springbok teams. Gathered together for a formal team photograph were 23 individuals, showcasing the recognizable faces of some of the country’s prominent rugby figures.
However, there was a distinct difference… these players were not the athletes set to compete on the field. Instead, they were ordinary South Africans who were selected due to their resemblance to the Springboks, and were part of Klipdrift’s Same Same But Klippies #BokSearch initiative.
This campaign merges two beloved elements of South African culture – the Springboks and a refreshing Klippies & Coke. Since the Springboks cannot indulge in a drink during matches, Klipdrift sought to find a team of everyday South Africans who share a likeness to the rugby stars and enjoy the spirit of Klippies.
The photograph signifies the conclusion of months filled with nominations from South Africans who saw themselves in the Springboks and decided to participate in the search.

Through each nomination, Klipdrift was able to assemble its own matchday 23, transforming a light-hearted search for those who resemble the Springboks into a tribute to the diverse individuals contributing to rugby culture in South Africa.
Among those nominated was Antonio Munnik, a law enforcement officer from Belhar, recognized for his resemblance to Springbok Grant Williams. Another was Zwelethu Maziya, a real estate agent from Durban, whose likeness to Aphelele Fassi has become a frequent topic of amusement among his friends, who insisted he should enter the Bok Search scanner based on how much he looks like the player.
Anthony Smit, a construction worker from Paarl, mentioned that his resemblance to Eben Etzebeth has led to amusing situations. He recounted an incident in a biltong shop where a woman was so convinced he was the Springbok that she stumbled when he entered, only to realize he wasn’t who she thought and ended up falling anyway.

Reflecting on his experience with the other nominees, Anthony noted, “Meeting the other doubles was amazing. It felt like being part of a provincial rugby team, everyone was ready to play.”
For many chosen doubles, this opportunity has represented more than simply being recognized for their resemblance to a rugby player. It has provided them the chance to meet 22 others sharing a similar journey and witness what began as individual nominations coalesce into one remarkable team.
“Rugby has a way of uniting South Africans, whether through viewing parties, at the stadium, at barbecues, or in the friendly discussions that arise long before a match begins,” stated Donné Wolk, Marketing Head of Spirits. “With #BokSearch, we wanted to highlight that connection in a way that was distinctly South African. What began with people noticing striking resemblances evolved into thousands of South Africans participating and aiding us in creating a second squad. The sight of all 23 Bok doubles together is a significant reflection of the spirit that embodies Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.”

However, the search is not limited to the men’s Springbok team. To honor the entire complex of Springbok representation, Klipdrift has broadened the Same Same But Klippies initiative to include the Springbok Women and Springbok Sevens teams, which are also featured on the scanner. This allows South Africans the chance to find their unique doubles within the broader Bok family. While the main squad has been announced, additional opportunities to participate remain available.

Individuals aged 18 and above can still submit their entries for #BokSearch until the end of September 2026, with the chance to win a framed Springbok jersey or secure a place as a recognized Same Same But Klippies squad member.
Even though a team of 23 has been established, the conclusion of #BokSearch is far from imminent.
