Mohau Nkota is on track to rejoin Orlando Pirates after spending a single season in the Saudi Pro League, coming back on a season-long loan from Al-Ettifaq.
His move to Saudi Arabia in July 2025 followed a breakout year.
Initially, his swift exit raised some questions, but the winger quickly demonstrated his ability to perform at a higher level, becoming a valuable asset for Al-Ettifaq, although injuries hampered his participation towards the end of the season.
Now, he is back at the club where he first gained prominence during a turbulent period.
Pirates have experienced a significant turnover this transfer window, losing 17 players, including key contributors Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Sipho Mbule, not to mention several contract expirations and mutual agreements to part ways.
This wave of departures has added considerable pressure on coach Abdeslam Ouaddou to reconstruct the team. He has brought in new additions like Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sbangani Zulu, and Ghampani Lungu, though replicating the impact of Mofokeng and Maswanganyi will be challenging.
Nkota’s return comes at a crucial juncture. He is familiar with the club’s culture, expectations, and the pressures of playing for one of South Africa’s most recognized teams.
During his standout 2024/25 season, he participated in 39 matches, contributing 12 goals and assists, including a memorable double against CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League.
His return provides Ouaddou with another attacking choice as Pirates seek to defend their Betway Premiership title and compete in the Champions League. For Nkota, this is an opportunity to regain the momentum he had established before moving abroad, returning with much at stake.
