The award-winning comedian and member of the PNC collective reenacted Papa Penny’s speech during a remote Portfolio Committee meeting held on September 9, 2025. The session aimed to assess the performance of the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture.
In his speech addressed to Gayton McKenzie, the artist-turned-politician challenged the Minister to focus on rural areas, highlighting the presence of numerous gifted artists and athletes:
“Come to us in the village, bring everything back, our culture and soccer, everything must happen in the villages.”
With a humorous flair, Popps added his own spin to Papa Penny’s earnest request directed at Gayton McKenzie and his ministry.
