Mya, recognized for her Grammy-winning contributions to R&B music, received a warm welcome in South Africa as she was awarded a star on the Ndlala Mall Walk of Fame even before performing her first song in the country. This recognition came shortly after her arrival on Thursday, marking a memorable beginning to her debut visit.
The singer came to the country in advance of headlining the second Ndlala Grandeur soirée, a three-day entertainment event taking place at Ndlala Mall. Mya joins Joe Thomas as a distinguished star on the Walk of Fame, with Thomas having received his star following his performance at the mall’s relaunch in August 2025.

Mya expressed that this honor holds deep personal significance for her. She described her arrival as an immediate and emotional link to the continent.
“When I touched down on the motherland, I felt welcome,” she said, noting that the warmth felt more like a homecoming than an arrival in a new place.
She also emphasized the importance of being recognized in front of individuals she believes are part of her heritage.
“What better way to celebrate and be honoured than with your own brothers and sisters? It means a lot,” she said.
What can fans expect from Mya’s South African performance?
On the first night, Mya will share the stage with American artist RL, South Africa’s Zonke, and DJ Young. She is scheduled to perform for about an hour, accompanied by a live band and intends to include a variety of songs from all phases of her career.
“All of the hits, all of the classics, and some of my independent catalogue, along with some covers that I really, really love to perform live,” she said.
The Case of the Ex artist revealed her particular affinity for music from different decades and plans to incorporate some of those influences into her set.
“You know, I love 70s music and 90s music too, so you’re gonna hear me doing some covers of some other artists,” she said.
Dance will also be a feature of her performance.
“I love to dance, so you’re gonna get the little dancing steps too,” she teased.
When asked about her feelings ahead of this significant debut, Mya expressed her anticipation.
“Wonderful. I feel rested,” she said, adding that her team and she are fully prepared. “We’re so ready to perform and give the people a wonderful show tomorrow.”
