Nadia Nakai Declares: ‘Club Gigs Aren’t My Scene!’

Nadia Nakai has made a significant change in her career, announcing that she will no longer take on club performances.

The rapper has indicated that her club performance days are over as she looks to engage in more meaningful and musically rich opportunities.

During an interview on the Defining Podcast, Nakai shared her genuine thoughts on the types of performances that once characterized her career.

She expressed that her previous experiences in clubs no longer resonate with her artistic expression.

“I’m tired,” she said. “I’m at this place where when I see myself performing, when I see myself hosting in clubs, I’m cringing. I’m looking at myself saying, ‘Ew, that looks bad.’ What am I doing at this stage of the game? I don’t wanna be doing this.”

Rather than transitioning slowly, Nakai has put down a clear line.

She stated that she has ceased accepting club bookings, mentioning that her last performance in that venue was on New Year’s.

Moving forward, her focus will be on engagements that are in line with her artistic vision.

“I’m not doing club gigs. I’m not doing performances where it’s just me and my DJ,” she clarified.

“If you’re booking me for a performance, it has to be festivals, and I’m bringing a band. If I can’t bring a band, leave me out of it, ‘cause that’s the only thing that inspires me now.”

This decision is about more than just changing venues; it represents a redefinition of her artistic approach.

Nakai elaborated on her desire for deeper artistic expression, moving away from the conventional high-energy club scene that often favors image over substance.

“I feel like I need to grow as a musician, even the way that I perform and put my craft out there,” she stated.

“Because now just wearing like a skimpy dress in the club, popping bottles… I’m not there anymore. I don’t wanna be there anymore. I absolutely hate it.”

Her choice reflects a heightened sense of self-awareness and autonomy.

“You deserve to ask for what you want,” she added. “Yeah, and getting that, that is what is happening.”
