In recent months, rumors have circulated regarding the future of South Africa’s celebrated Afro-pop act, Blaq Diamond. There has been growing concern among fans that the duo, comprising Ndu Brown and Danya Devs, might be heading towards a breakup, particularly in light of Danya Devs’ series of solo releases.
However, during a recent conversation with City Press, Ndu Brown clarified the situation, confirming that Blaq Diamond is not disbanding.
“We are definitely not splitting, me and my brother can never split,” proclaimed Ndu Brown. “I think we love each other so much, the bond is just insane.”
Yet, as both artists begin to delve into their solo endeavors, speculation about a possible split has intensified. Danya Devs’ latest solo tracks, received with much enthusiasm, have contributed to the speculation.
His new music showcases a distinct approach compared to the group’s well-known style, leading to inquiries about whether the pair may have diverged artistically.
Nevertheless, Ndu asserts that these individual projects do not indicate an impending separation; rather, they are part of a carefully considered artistic plan.
“We planned this,” Ndu elaborated. “We began discussing it last year on how we could implement this kind of initiative.”
He clarified that the intention was never to overshadow Blaq Diamond but rather to enhance their artistic expression. Ndu confirmed that both he and Danya Devs willingly engaged in exploring their individual artistry while maintaining the group’s core identity and unity.
“The whole idea of doing something like this, with Danya dropping his solos and when I drop my solos, it’s not gonna sound like anything we do when we are Blaq Diamond,” Ndu stated. “That is the aim around the goal behind it, to give people more music, as we have realized that our audience is very wide.”
Since their emergence, Blaq Diamond has been celebrated for their skill in blending Maskandi, Afro-pop, and hip-hop influences, creating a sound that resonates strongly with a diverse audience across generations.
Their synergy, both on stage and off, has significantly contributed to their success, and according to Ndu, that special connection remains strong.
While the duo pursues their individual careers with a more avant-garde and contemporary vibe, fans can still anticipate hearing new music from Blaq Diamond.
