A Nigerian man was fatally shot in Windsor East during a police operation associated with the crime-fighting show Sizokthola, leading to demands for justice from the Nigerian community in South Africa.

The incident has been linked to Xolani Khumalo, a candidate for the mayor of Ekurhuleni, who was confirmed to have been present at the time of the event by his party.

The Gauteng division of the South African Police Service (SAPS) stated that their officers were not involved in the operation which resulted in the shooting, but they arrived at the location after being alerted.

The deceased individual has been identified as Emeka Clement Uzor, also known by the name Rugert.

A member of the local community noted that Uzor had just been released from prison after serving 11 months for drug possession.

“He has a wife and children back in Nigeria. He came to South Africa to hustle. Rugert was recently released after spending 11 months in prison. On the day Xolani and his people arrived, everyone started running, and Rugert was running towards his car when he was shot,” the community member shared.

In response to the shooting, the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has demanded a thorough investigation into Uzor’s death.

The organization is seeking transparency regarding the operation’s execution and has indicated that protests may occur from the Nigerian community if justice is not achieved.

Authorities are anticipated to conduct further inquiries as scrutiny increases regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
