Ntsiki Mazwai Seeks Financial Support Amidst Land Party Campaign Struggles

Poet and media figure Ntsiki Mazwai, aspiring to become the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg through the Land Party, has made a public appeal for financial support. In a heartfelt message on X, she reached out to experienced fundraisers and regular supporters to assist the campaign before it collapses. She stated:

“Guys, if any of you are seasoned fundraisers, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me in my DMs. We definitely need your help. Campaigning is expensive, and LAND PARTY is not funded by the oligarchs, so we are actually seeing flames.”

Mazwai defended herself against those criticizing her visibility on the campaign trail, clarifying that her absence was not voluntary.

“I get so frustrated when you point out that I’m not on the ground, but we actually literally don’t have funds. 🥺”

Challenges facing the Land Party

Ntsiki Mazwai highlighted a systemic issue in South African politics, noting that running a campaign of significance necessitates considerable financial resources, which typically benefit well-established parties with access to wealthy donors. As a party that identifies as socialist and Africanist, she noted that the Land Party does not attract the type of funding that supports more affluent political entities.

In response to a comment suggesting that the party should have arranged funding prior to launching its mayoral campaign, Mazwai countered that the Land Party has been operational since 2019 and asked critics to refrain from unconstructive feedback.

Public reactions

Responses on X were varied. While some users offered tangible recommendations, others expressed doubt regarding the campaign’s ability to move forward.

@Pfadzi remarked:

“Was thinking about this. People should donate straight to the LP account; you come back & give us a breakdown of how funds were used so that people can trust you. People just want accountability.”

@Musawenkosi_JM expressed a sarcastic viewpoint:

“Why not try Rupert and the Oppenheimers for fast political cash? Songisi and Mmusi may assist!”

@Lavito_ZA delivered a straightforward comment:

“Catch a taxi to Kaalfontein for a campaign, then tomorrow you can do Alexandra, or you want to go with a protocol driving SUVs?”

@Thabisha7 shared insights on political funding:

“Sometimes in politics you need to sell us to get funded.”

@Dan2039282 was less than supportive:

“Mcxxxxm, go take a bath first.”

@aaron_plk compared the situation to Julius Malema:

“Now you believe Julius Malema ge a re polotiki e boima ae nyake bo ma tseya di chance. 😂😂”
