The artist’s comments came in light of rising talent Zee Nxumalo, who received seven nominations but did not win at the event.
In response to the event’s outcome, Prince Kaybee emphasized the importance of perseverance, arguing that awards do not determine an artist’s worth.
“Those things don’t mean anything. GET TO WORK!” he wrote.

“There’s something called ‘External Dependency’… a term used in business where a project task is reliant on factors outside the direct control of the project team,” he elaborated.
According to Prince Kaybee, artists should not depend on accolades for affirmation, as their achievements are reflected in the music they produce.
He stated that the balance between artists and awards is skewed, highlighting that award shows tend to lean more on musicians for their relevance.
“I believe music and awards are two entities in a relationship… the music (the artist) shouldn’t suffer from ‘External Dependency’ because the reason why we have awards is because of the artist,” he articulated.
He further asserted that award functions are heavily reliant on artists for their continued significance.
“In this case the awards lost and Zee Nxumalo won because should Zee and other artists stop releasing music, the Metro FM awards and all its hosts are dead!” he remarked.
