The ongoing rivalry between Prince Kaybee and Cassper Nyovest appears to have encountered a financial hurdle, preventing a showdown that many anticipated in the boxing ring.
Kabelo “Prince Kaybee” Motsamai, the renowned DJ and producer, has explained for the first time why the highly anticipated celebrity boxing match with rapper Refiloe “Cassper Nyovest” Phoolo did not take place. He stated that the monetary offer was insufficient for a fight of that prominence.
During a discussion on YFM with hosts Ayanda MVP and Sinaye Kotobe, the Banomoya artist revealed that he was approached by Cassper’s team with an invitation to participate in the rapper’s celebrity boxing event, Celeb City Boxing Match.
Prince Kaybee disclosed that he turned down the proposed purse of R500,000, considering it too low for an event of such significance.
“They said they would give me half a million (R500,000). I would not train for half a million. They should offer me at least R3 million,” he said.
The potential match was stoked by years of public disputes and social media exchanges between the two artists. As their rivalry escalated online, fans frequently encouraged them to resolve their differences through a boxing bout rather than escalating the tension in digital spaces.
Prince Kaybee emphasized that financial considerations are the primary roadblock to the fight.
“I am fit enough,” he said.
“Unfortunately, Cassper will never reach my level. Even our weights do not match.”
His remarks indicate a willingness to engage in the contest, contingent on receiving an offer that aligns with his expectations for such a high-profile event.
At the time of reporting, attempts to gather comments from Cassper Nyovest were unsuccessful.
Cassper’s Celebrity Boxing Journey
Cassper Nyovest initiated his foray into celebrity boxing in December 2021, when he faced YouTuber Slik Talk in a widely publicized event titled Fame vs Clout held at the Sandton Fight Club in Johannesburg.
Cassper showcased his boxing skills, dominating the match and prompting the referee to stop the fight in the third round, as Slik Talk struggled to defend himself.
In April 2022, he returned to the ring against musician and actor Anga “NaakMusiQ” Makubalo at the Sun City Superbowl. After a competitive match, judges determined that NaakMusiQ was the winner, marking Cassper’s first loss in celebrity boxing.
Later that same year, in October 2022, Cassper fought rapper Ricardo “Priddy Ugly” Moloi at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, securing a win after Priddy Ugly was stopped early in the bout.
Since then, Cassper has tried to organize further celebrity matches. He publicly challenged Maskandi artist Mthandeni SK, but the bout never materialized due to a lack of formal agreement between the parties.
Additionally, he often challenged the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes before the latter’s tragic passing in February 2023, but a fight between them never occurred.
For the time being, fans in South Africa hoping to see a resolution of the longstanding rivalry between Prince Kaybee and Cassper Nyovest will need to wait. Based on Prince Kaybee’s recent comments, the fight remains a possibility but comes with a considerably higher financial expectation.
