Emerging Amapiano artist Thatohatsi is sharing insights gained from her experiences with two prominent figures in the genre, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa. She acknowledges that the Scorpion Kings have imparted valuable lessons on patience, diligence, and the necessity of building resilience within the music industry.
Thato Raphadi, known as Thatohatsi, hails from Springs in Ekurhuleni and is making a name for herself in the Amapiano music scene. Her tracks, including “Izospana,” “Ama Hem Hem,” and “Injabulo,” have contributed to her rising popularity, culminating in her inclusion in the lineup for the much-anticipated Scorpion Kings Live concert at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Thatohatsi shared her enthusiasm about participating in the significant event.
“I’m really excited. It’s an honour to be part of something this big, and I can’t wait to perform for everyone,” she mentioned.
She is optimistic that this year’s Scorpion Kings Live will exceed the previous event, citing the considerable efforts made by Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa’s team to ensure fans enjoy an extraordinary experience.
“Honestly, I’m excited because I feel like this year’s Scorpion Kings is going to be much bigger than the last one. Phori and Kabza’s team have done an amazing job on everything. This year’s concert is going to be insane, as you can see, we’ve already started with the marketing.”
Beyond their musical contributions, Thatohatsi credits Kabza and Phorisa with profoundly influencing her artistic outlook. She highlights the lesson of managing criticism and negativity, particularly on social media.
“What they taught me in life is to be patient because I can be impatient sometimes. I can also quickly get affected by things that are said on social media, so they taught me to have a thick skin in this music industry,” she explained.
Thatohatsi emphasized that the duo encouraged her to maintain focus and disregard negativity.
“They told me that people are going to keep talking and I should ignore them and be a strong woman.”
The Scorpion Kings have also instilled in her the significance of hard work and the value of dedicating time and passion to her music.
In terms of promoting her work, Thatohatsi considers social media to be her most essential tool. She believes that artists must first have confidence in their own music before they can expect listeners to engage with it.
