Riyad Mahrez has reached a verbal agreement to join Qatari club Al-Shamal SC on a temporary basis, following his exit from Al Ahli in June.
As reported by @dzfoot, Mahrez has secured a deal with Al-Shamal, with the final steps anticipated to be completed prior to the official announcement of the transfer.

This move allows the former Manchester City player to extend his career in Qatar after his time at Al Ahli concluded. Mahrez transitioned to the Saudi club in 2023, following a successful five-year tenure at Manchester City where he achieved numerous domestic trophies and the UEFA Champions League title.
Sources indicate that Al-Shamal is keen to secure the seasoned attacker, who is still among Algeria’s most recognized football figures.
In the meantime, Mahrez’s previous team Al Ahli has welcomed Marino Pusic as their new head coach. The Croatian mentor steps in as the Saudi club embarks on a new phase following the exit of their last manager.
Pusic brings a wealth of experience from European football and will be responsible for leading Al Ahli into the next stage of their development.
With Mahrez’s exit, Al Ahli will miss the Algerian winger’s contributions to their offense, while he readies himself for a new opportunity in Qatar.
For Al-Shamal, bringing in Mahrez signifies the addition of a player with extensive experience in top-tier football. His skills in technical play, creativity, and experience could enhance the Qatari team’s attacking options.
The transfer is expected to be finalized soon, with Mahrez preparing to begin this new chapter at Al-Shamal after leaving Al Ahli.
