Shaka iLembe: Final Season Announcement for 2026 Premiere

‘Shaka iLemba’ renewed for season 3

MultiChoice has officially announced that the groundbreaking saga of Shaka iLembe will come to a close with its third season.

This captivating historical drama, which has enchanted viewers across Africa and beyond, is set to return in 2026 for what the producers call the “final, thunderous act” of Shaka’s reign.

Produced by Bomb! Productions, this epic series has chronicled the remarkable journey of King Shaka (portrayed by Lemogang Tsipa), from his initial hardships to becoming one of the most powerful leaders in African history.

The conclusion of season two last night finalized a significant chapter and paved the way for an ultimate challenge regarding his power, loyalty, and legacy.

The upcoming season is set to deliver intense drama, beginning with Shaka hosting the largest Ijadu celebration in Zulu history, a grand display of music, dance, and political theater.

However, amid the celebrations, a lethal assassin’s blow strikes royal blood, inciting doubt and anxiety within his court.

As the tension escalates, Shaka’s rule becomes increasingly savage, with betrayals looming from both inside and outside his domain.

The conflict with the Mpondo tribe heightens the stakes, while Queen Nandi harbors a secret with catastrophic implications.

Audiences can anticipate the arrival of Francis Fynn and the British, whose wish to establish a presence at Port Natal signals the encroaching threat of colonial ambition.

Alongside these political maneuvers, two romantic narratives unfold, Mzilikazi embarks on unforeseen escapades, and adversaries close in on Shaka’s sovereignty.

MultiChoice has characterized Shaka iLembe as “a love letter to the land and people of South Africa,” honoring KwaZulu-Natal, the birthplace of the Zulu empire.

“When we first announced the inaugural season, we were convinced that Shaka iLembe would elevate the bar for African narrative, and while our hope was for audiences to embrace it, the feedback has far surpassed our aspirations,” remarked Nomsa Philiso, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice.

“Beyond just highlighting the heritage of the Zulu Nation, it showcased the saga of a dynasty forged by a single individual to the world, supported by King Shaka’s descendants and narrated from an African viewpoint. As we venture into the third season, we broaden this realm of kings, queens, warriors, healers, and leaders who envisioned the reinvention of an entire culture and a legacy that persists over three centuries later.”

Since its launch, Shaka iLembe has achieved the status of the most awarded program in South African television history, garnering 12 SAFTAs and receiving acclaim for its costumes, cinematography, soundtrack, and authentic representation of Zulu culture.

Actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who plays Queen Nandi, has also been honored as Best African Actress at the 2024 Septimius Awards held in Amsterdam.

The third season will symbolize the culmination of a television phenomenon that has redefined African storytelling globally, ensuring that Shaka’s legacy continues to echo long after the final episode is broadcasted.
