Sjava Shares Touching Studio Experience That Led to the Creation of “Home” Featuring Lwah Ndlunkulu

Recently, award-winning artist Sjava reflected on a significant moment that contributed to the making of “Home,” a deeply impactful track performed by rising star Lwah Ndlunkulu, in which he features.
In a thoughtful social media post, Sjava recounted his initial encounter with Lwah, which began with a phone call from fellow musician Big Zulu. During a studio camp in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, Big Zulu encouraged Sjava to meet a talented young artist eager to work with him—Lwah Ndlunkulu.
“I remember receiving a call from @BigZulu_ZN, who said, ‘There’s someone at the studio who wants to meet you,’” Sjava reminisced. He traveled to Bergville, unaware of the meaningful experience that lay ahead. Upon his arrival, Big Zulu introduced him to Lwah, simply referring to her as, “this one, Mkhaya Lwah.”
Ngiyabonga Colbert nkabi, I remember getting a call from @BigZulu_ZN saying, ‘there’s someone at the studio who wants to meet you.’ I drove down to Bergville, and he introduced me to this young lady, saying, “this one, Mkhaya Lwah.” This song was recorded the first time… https://t.co/cIvnFqG1mV
It was during this inaugural meeting that the song “Home” was born—a track embodying the emotional struggles and resilience of those who leave their hometowns in pursuit of a brighter future.
Sjava was particularly touched by Lwah’s personal narrative of leaving her community to seek her musical dreams in Johannesburg. This story inspired the verse he later wrote for the track, which has found resonance with many individuals on similar journeys.
“This verse became a voice for many who left home to chase their dreams,” he remarked. Produced by Celza, affectionately known as “inja kaGogo,” and featuring backing vocals by Siya Ntuli, the song serves as both a sonic masterpiece and a testament to genuine collaboration rooted in shared experiences. Sjava expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to be part of what he termed “Lwah Ndlunkulu’s journey.”
Released under Nkabi Records, “Home” stands as a poignant tribute to sacrifice, dreams, and the indomitable spirit of those pursuing their aspirations far from the safety of home.
“@lwahndlunkulu Ngiyabonga,” Sjava concluded his post, a heartfelt acknowledgment of the Nkabi Records star and the story that united them.
