In the upcoming episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Radio, hosted by Ebro Darden, who serves as Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B, South African musicians K.Keed and Orish will be highlighted. Ebro and Nandi Madida, the presenter of Africa Now Radio, will delve into their new single, “Abenam,” which is part of their eagerly awaited collaborative album, uMgaranto II. This album is the follow-up to their 2023 release, Umgaranto, and it progresses the duo’s established rapport and creative dialogue, while enhancing their musical style in a more cinematic, calculated, and polished manner.
“Abenam” presents a lively scene of the duo’s storytelling abilities, depicting the experience of two friends fleeing from a man “from the hood” after entertaining his girlfriend. With a title meaning “may the higher spirit be with me,” the song encapsulates the humorous turmoil and suspense through sharp lyrics, captivating rhythm, and colorful production. uMgaranto II prominently features isiXhosa storytelling, referencing classic South African commercials, nostalgic cultural instances, and “kasi” experiences that influenced K.Keed and Orish as they grew up.
In addition to K.Keed and Orish, Rap Life Africa will highlight Zen Univrse’sdebut album, #flowstate. Building on the success of the single “margiela baby,” this project gathers a remarkable group of some of Nigeria’s top underground talents, including Psycho YP, scottyolorin, and ARTSALGHULamong others. Reflecting the vibrancy of the current underground music landscape,#flowstate provides a glimpse into the new generation of Nigerian Hip-Hop. Featured within is “Lil Mama” by Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C, showcasing a significant partnership between two prominent figures in African Hip-Hop, designed to leave a lasting impression with its catchy hook.
