In a show of solidarity, South Africans have come together to raise over R200,000 for Thokozani Ndlovu, known in the music scene as L’vovo, who hails from KwaZulu-Natal.
This initiative was sparked by a heartfelt interview Ndlovu conducted with Gagasi FM’s Linda Sibiya during the weekend, where he shared his journey toward recovery after experiencing a severe stroke in December 2022.
The health crisis prompted him to withdraw from public appearances to concentrate on his recovery. He was performing in Ndwedwe when the stroke struck, impacting his speech and weakening the left side of his body.
In the interview, which resonated with many listeners, the accomplished artist discussed his rehabilitation and the stark realities faced within the entertainment world.
The Resista artist disclosed that following his health scare, he lost almost everything and had to return to his hometown of Newcastle.
Nonetheless, he expressed that he has made notable strides in his recovery.
While he has regained much of his physical ability, his left hand still poses challenges and is a part of his ongoing recovery process.
Inspired by his story, Yenzie Qiniso Ndimande initiated a fundraising effort on Monday.
In a post on Facebook, Ndimande stated: “Please note that L’vovo did not ask for donations. Many people were touched by his interview, and from there, we decided to come together and support him.”
Within a mere seven hours, the campaign amassed over R100,000 from contributions made by everyday South Africans and fellow artists, including Limit Nala and Jumbo.
By Tuesday, donations continued to flow in, with notable contributions such as R20,000 from Khuzani Mpungose and R2,000 from Zimiphi Biyela, a presenter at Ukhozi FM. By midday on Tuesday, the total had already surpassed R200,000.
