Following the success of two films in the Why Did I Get Married series, Tyler Perry, who took on multiple roles including creator, writer, producer, director, and actor in the initial installments, has enlisted the talents of Taraji P. Henson for the third movie.
Prior to this collaboration, Perry and Henson have worked together on four projects: The Family That Preys (2008), I Can Do Bad All by Myself (2009), Acrimony (2018), and Straw (2025).
Details about the new installment are limited; however, the promotional images suggest that Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba, who portrayed a married couple in the previous films, will not be returning for this one.
Why Did I Get Married Again is set to debut on September 9 on Netflix.

The first films depicted a group of friends from college who gather for vacation trips as couples, during which tensions rise, affecting both personal relationships and group dynamics.
In this new film, the couples come together for the destination wedding of Marcus’s (Michael Jai White) and Angela’s (Tasha Smith) daughter.
Who will star alongside Taraji P. Henson?
In addition to Henson, Tyler Perry, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, and Sharon Leal are reprising their previous roles, along with new cast members joining the ensemble.
New additions to the cast include Armani Greer, Lamman Rucker, Everett Osborne, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Sydney Winbush.
The original film premiered in 2007, achieving notable box office success, which led to the production of a sequel in 2010.
The upcoming third film arrives 16 years post the second installment, promising a storyline that reflects the characters’ growth and possible narratives involving their now adult children.
