A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning at approximately 05h15, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals following a collision between a minibus taxi and a bus on the R39 Road, situated between Standerton and Morgenzon.
All victims were traveling in the minibus taxi, which included the driver.
Eight individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital and another died during treatment at a facility in Standerton.
At the time of the accident, the minibus was on its way from Morgenzon to Standerton, while the bus was allegedly headed in the opposite direction.
The driver of the bus suffered minor injuries, and one of the bus passengers came away without harm.
Initial reports suggest that misty conditions may have contributed to reduced visibility along the road during the incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, with reckless and negligent driving remaining as possible factors.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, expressed his condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and hoped for a swift recovery for those injured.
