Exploring Artistic Horizons: Issi's Journey with 'Dawn ~ The Beginning'

Issi Discusses His Project “Dawn ~ The Beginning.” Issi, a rising rap artist from Durban, known as Issi Luthando Dlamini, recently shared insights into his creative path during an episode of LO TV’s interview show Choppin It. In conversation with host KwethabaNyaba, he elaborated on the concept behind his debut album Dawn ~ The Beginning, which was launched earlier this year.

Unveiling 'Dawn ~ The Beginning': Issi Explores His Artistic VisionIssi Discusses His Project “Dawn ~ The Beginning”

When questioned about what differentiates this project from his previous efforts, Issi replied succinctly: “Dawn.” The discussion then turned to the obstacles he encountered while working on the album. This 20-year-old artist from Chesterville spoke openly about the mental transformation he needed to undertake during the recording process. “Because I just told myself like I had to, um, rap more instead of chat, you know?

This distinction signifies a pivotal moment in Issi’s artistic development. By transitioning from a relaxed, conversational style to a more precise and technical technique, he aims to demonstrate growth. Issi’s artistry is deeply rooted in personal experiences, influenced by the lives of those in townships. He draws inspiration from artists such as 21 Savage, Young Thug, Juice WRLD, and NBA YoungBoy, weaving their styles into his evolving sound.

KwethabaNyaba also probed deeper into the meaning of the album’s title, asking Issi about the inspiration behind Dawn.

“Why Dawn? Why, why, where does the name come from?” the host inquired.

Issi’s reply mirrored the hopeful spirit embedded in his music. “Uh, Dawn, Dawn means um, the beginning, you know? Like a new day. So yeah.”

Issi is actively carving out his identity within the competitive landscape of South African hip hop. Dawn ~ The Beginning transcends being a mere debut; it signifies a personal and creative rebirth, merging vulnerability with refinement and genuine experiences with purposeful artistry.

The seven-track album, lasting just over 21 minutes, has begun to resonate with an audience. Listeners have commended its subtle yet powerful delivery, reflecting both the challenges and aspirations associated with growing up in Durban’s townships. Tracks like “Honey Pack” and “Double P”, featuring DJ Sliqe, are picking up momentum, while Issi’s streaming numbers climb on services like Spotify.

His calm demeanor during the Choppin It interview reflects the essence of his album. There’s no need for show; he communicates a clear sense of evolution and purpose. By committing to a more focused approach to rapping, Issi indicates that this work signifies not just another release, but the commencement of a more thoughtful career trajectory.
