Usimamane’s “Baby Tai” EP Leads Apple Music Charts As Rapper Teases “TAI LUNG” Release. The rise of South African hip-hop has a prominent figure in Usimamane. The rapper from Umlazi has begun 2026 on a high note, with his latest EP G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai soaring to the top spot on both the All-Genres and Album charts of Apple Music South Africa.

The success of his project surpasses notable artists such as Kelvin Momo, Olivia Dean, and Gunna, showcasing the impact Usimamane’s emergence continues to have. This chart achievement follows a significant trajectory; in 2024, his debut album 20th: Days Before Maud made waves on Spotify, solidifying the then-21-year-old’s place as a leading voice in Mzansi hip-hop. Now, at 22, Usimamane is demonstrating that his initial success was not incidental.

G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai contains six tracks compacted into just over 20 minutes, yet it leaves a powerful impact. It opens with the poignant track “Tai Lung’s Pain” before transitioning into more aggressive songs such as “Nix,” “Racks,” “Done Done,” and “Like That.”

The EP concludes with “Umusa Wakho Outro,” offering a moment of reflection. Featuring contributions from YMP Cash and Mark Lourence, the project strikes a balance between intensity and melody, receiving acclaim for its clarity and focus. Fans have recognized it as compelling from start to finish, with tracks like “Racks” and “Like That” quickly becoming popular choices.

In acknowledgment of this achievement, Usimamane posted on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of the Apple Music charts with a note of thanks and anticipation. “Thank you for showing my newborn baby ‘baby tai’ love, TAI LUNG is Alive and Coming, see y’all again soon,” he stated.

Some early listeners have found the EP lacking. However, the overall metrics reflect a more favorable narrative. With its chart success and broad support from fans, Usimamane is effectively marrying his local township background with broader commercial appeal. His journey from Umlazi to leading national music charts embodies the aspirations and self-assurance of the new wave in South African hip-hop. With Baby Tai continuing to perform well and the anticipation for Tai Lung building, 2026 is poised to be another significant year for Usimamane.
