Yoco has unveiled its most comprehensive product launch to date, introducing over 20 new products and features aimed at empowering South Africa’s independent businesses. The highlight is a preview of Yoco AI, the company’s inaugural AI agent.
Independent businesses, which contribute significantly to South Africa’s economy at 40%, have long relied on tools not tailored for their needs: generic solutions designed for larger enterprises and diluted for smaller ones. Yoco began by addressing payment accessibility and is now shifting the focus to providing these businesses with a strategic edge: a smart commerce platform that assists them in transitioning from mere survival to growth. “Yoco started by giving independent businesses access to payments. Today, we’re giving them the tools that used to belong only to big business, at a price built for small business. We call it the unfair advantage,” stated Carl Wazen, Yoco’s Chief Business Officer. Yoco AI: intelligence democratized Yoco is asserting that AI tools should not be exclusive to large corporations with extensive data analytics teams. For the independent businesses facing constant market fluctuations and operating on tight margins, insights equate to survival instead of a luxury. Following the announcement of its acquisition of Dyner.ai, Yoco has introduced Yoco AI, aimed at serving independent businesses soon. This AI agent will analyze individual business sales trends, costs, and staffing needs, proactively identifying issues and suggesting next steps without prompting.
Yoco Loyalty Yoco Loyalty represents South Africa’s inaugural extensive, card-linked loyalty program for independent businesses, providing automatic rewards for customers each time they make a purchase. There’s no need for an app, punchcard, or complicated setup. Approximately one in three patrons who frequent Yoco food and beverage establishments return at least twice monthly, and now this loyalty can be acknowledged and rewarded. Yoco Connect: eliminating fragmentation The typical small business in South Africa utilizes more than eight disparate applications just to manage daily operations. Yoco Connect consolidates accounting, e-commerce, bookings, inventory, and loyalty into a single platform. Additionally, it is already facilitating over 500 merchants via its integration with Xero. Yoco is also enhancing its openness. The Yoco Developer Hub currently supports more than 50 active third-party applications, and the new Yoco MCP Server links AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT directly to a merchant’s account, converting simple dialogue into payment links, refunds, and reconciliation. Industry Modes: Tailored to specific sectors Yoco has introduced four new industry-specific modes for its point-of-sale system: F&B Counter Service, F&B Table Service, Retail, and Beauty & Services, each with functionalities designed specifically for that sector, including tableside ordering on Yoco’s card machines and appointment management for service-oriented businesses.
Independent businesses drive the economy Today’s announcements arrive in the context of ongoing challenges confronting South African entrepreneurs. A recent Yoco survey found that 46% of independent business owners feel less assured than they did at the beginning of the year, while 51% noted that consumer spending pressures have further affected their confidence. Yoco, informed by its network of 200,000 merchants, believes that independent businesses are integral to the economy, not just supplementary. Through today’s launch, Yoco is taking a decisive stance: independent businesses require more than additional tools; they need a platform tailored to their environment, where every moment matters and visibility plays a crucial role in navigating through adversity.
