Capitec has emerged as a popular choice among investors, according to recognition from EasyEquities at its inaugural awards event.
The ceremony, known as EasyAwards, acknowledged various awards for shares available on the platform, highlighting the most acquired products and leading providers associated with EasyEquities.
As of now, EasyEquities boasts roughly 2.9 million registered users, with around 1.2 million actively trading.
The platform, a segment of the Purple Group, stated that the aim of the awards ceremony was to provide an engaging perspective on South Africa’s investment scene.
Shaun Keeling, head of partnership marketing at EasyEquities, remarked, “We wanted to do something different and recognise what our investors actually do.”
“Every day, people on our platform start with a few rand or millions, spread their money across different wallets, bring friends along and keep investing. Those things have never been properly recognised.”
During the event, Capitec secured two awards: The Fan Favourite ZAR and The Slice is Right, both for the volume of shareholders purchasing its stock.
The specific awards included:
- The Fan Favourite ZAR: Awarded to the product purchased by the highest number of unique investors within the ZAR wallet.
- The Slice is Right: Recognizing the share bought by the most investors with a sum of R2,000 or below.
Discussions surrounding Capitec’s stock frequently arise due to its strong historical record on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
Since its entry into the market in February 2002, the company has seen its share price surge by approximately 385,839% as it expanded in size and market presence.
The bank’s shares were priced at R4510.29 when the market closed on October 20, significantly higher than its competitors.
In contrast, major South African banks such as Absa and Nedbank ended the day at R218.49 and R289.03, respectively.

Besides Capitec, EasyAwards commended a range of companies, products, and investors for their respective trading accomplishments.
These distinctions were based on empirical data gathered from the EasyEquities platform rather than relying on votes or a judging panel.
“No applications were submitted, no votes were cast, and no judging panel selected the recipients,” EasyEquities stated.
“Every result was determined by investor activity recorded between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, calculated by the EasyEquities Business Intelligence team.”
Keeling noted that the awards reflect trading patterns on the platform throughout the past year based on the data collected.
“We’re using data to recognise the products investors choose, where they put their money and how they approach investing over time,” he explained.
“It’s a fascinating reflection of how South Africans are investing, from those making their very first investment to those building diversified portfolios and growing their wealth consistently.”
Keeling also suggested that the awards illustrate the reality of activities within both the retail and institutional investment sectors.
Providers like Satrix and Allan Gray were acknowledged for achieving a high number of unique investors on the EasyEquities platform.
On an international scale, the awards highlighted Nvidia as the most purchased product, benefiting from its pivotal role in the advancement of global Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which went public this year, was noted for attracting the highest net investment value.
EasyEquities emphasized that the awards underline its growth since launching in 2014.
Carel Nolte, the group’s chief enablement officer, remarked, “We also have clients investing millions, and we frequently see months where more than R2 billion is deposited onto the platform.”
“We’ve matured as a business, and so has the industry around us. These awards show what our investors are achieving at scale and which products and providers they trust with their money.”
