The OPPO Reno16 F 5G features a remarkably high battery capacity, which raises the question of how a 7,000mAh battery performs in everyday settings.
On paper, a 7,000mAh battery holds significant promise for a smartphone.
This capacity is especially noteworthy for a device that maintains a slim profile while powering a 120Hz AMOLED display and handling demanding applications, from cameras to gaming to AI-driven tasks that often drain battery life quickly.
The Reno16 F 5G has recently been introduced in South Africa, aiming to strike this balance well.
The large battery is certainly one of its key selling points, complemented by 80W SUPERVOOC charging for when a recharge becomes necessary.
This proposal is straightforward: OPPO strives to make the Reno16 F 5G capable of helping users navigate busy days with minimal concern about battery levels.
The pivotal question, however, is how this manifests after the device is unplugged.

Evaluating Battery Performance
To gauge the OPPO Reno16 F 5G’s battery effectiveness, we created a testing environment that mimics typical usage scenarios.
This test involved letting the screen remain active, switching between applications, and allowing resource-intensive tasks to draw from the battery.
Our activities included heavy Wi-Fi usage, 5G connections, Bluetooth, and GPS.
The settings were adjusted to “balanced,” the brightness was set to auto, and the device began at a full charge.
The following is a summary of battery usage over a 24-hour timeframe:
- YouTube: 2 hours, 7 minutes
- Spotify: 55 minutes
- WhatsApp: 53 minutes
- Google: 50 minutes
- Facebook: 31 minutes
- Netflix: 29 minutes
- Age of Empires Mobile: 28 minutes
- App Market: 22 minutes
- System Launcher: 19 minutes
- Camera: 13 minutes
- Arena Breakout: 10 minutes
- Software Update: 5 minutes
- Google Play Store: 5 minutes
- Google Play Store: 4 minutes
The cumulative screen-on time for this nearly 7.5-hour examination was 6 hours and 49 minutes – surpassing the global average for screen-on periods.
During a busy morning from 07:00 to 09:00, the battery only reduced by 5%. Between 09:00 and 12:00, it slid from 95% to 85%, indicating impressive endurance.
After 24 hours, the battery retained 54% of its capacity, illustrating minimal loss over the full day.
Battery Quality Assessment
The Reno16 F 5G caters to users who transition between work, leisure, and content creation throughout the day, necessitating robust endurance across these activities.
The substantial 7,000mAh capacity must fuel hardware that encourages more intensive usage. For example, the device features a 120Hz AMOLED display and is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300-Energy platform.
Its camera supports 4K video recording, while ColorOS 16 integrates AI and productivity features for daily tasks.
These aspects contribute to the appeal of a high-performance smartphone, making battery longevity as important as capacity.
“Battery performance is something people experience throughout the entire day,” explains Buyani Nhlumayo, Junior Training Manager at OPPO South Africa.
“A large capacity gives us the foundation, but the device also has to manage that power efficiently while people are using the features they bought the phone for.”

Charging Performance
Charging capabilities are equally crucial. The Reno16 F 5G supports 80W SUPERVOOC charging, making a stopwatch more useful than merely relying on marketing claims.
Testing involved charging the device while it was plugged in, switched on, and set to airplane mode to avoid unnecessary downloads. The display remained off.
Bluetooth and location settings were active, as these represent typical daily necessities for most users.
After thoroughly depleting the Reno16 F 5G’s battery over two days, it was taken down to 0%.
Upon plugging it in, the phone booted up automatically. The following outlines our charging findings:
- After 15 minutes of charging – 29% battery
- After 30 minutes of charging – 52% battery
- After 45 minutes of charging – 74% battery
- After one hour of charging – 94% battery
The OPPO Reno16 F 5G achieved a full charge in just 70 minutes.
These results convey information the 80W figure cannot illustrate on its own.
A quick charge before leaving home can lead to a substantial amount of usable battery, while the total time for a complete charge is critical for understanding how inconvenient low battery levels can be.
The battery’s significant capacity also suggests a narrative regarding longevity. As smartphone owners retain devices longer, it becomes increasingly important for batteries to maintain their efficiency.

OPPO has increasingly incorporated battery longevity into its design processes, reflecting the expectation that devices must perform reliably long after their initial purchase.
Consistent performance is also a factor in how the device can be acquired:
- The Reno16 F 5G is available through the new OPPO South Africa *online store via the “Shop Now” link on OPPO’s website, which includes an official warranty, 12 months of accidental damage coverage, free delivery, and the option for a seven-day return or exchange.
The 7,000mAh battery of the Reno16 F 5G is, therefore, tasked with a challenging role.
It must power a vibrant, high-refresh-rate display along with demanding software while ensuring that users have enough battery reserve to last throughout the day.
In conclusion, the battery performance of the OPPO Reno16 F 5G is remarkably impressive, so much so that it became a challenge to drain it quickly – and we struggled to achieve this goal.
Even during intense usage, the battery typically decreased by no more than around 6% in an hour.
In essence, users could unplug in the morning, manage a full day of activities, and not need to recharge until the next evening.
In fact, it is feasible to go through nearly 48 hours of use before charging again, without making any efforts to conserve power.
