Schuster has previously spoken about his loneliness and desire for companionship, admitting that quiet evenings can be particularly difficult.
In a revealing interview with Leanne Manas, the esteemed comedian explores themes of love, solitude, and his hesitation to remarry.
Leon Schuster, a comedic icon in South Africa, shared insights into his reticence regarding marriage after two major relationships. He notably joked about the idea of marrying someone younger during a heartfelt television conversation.
At 74, the filmmaker is celebrated for his bold pranks and loved for his comical films. During his discussion with SABC’s Morning Live host Leanne Manas, he delved deeper into his private experiences.
Taking place at his residence, the interview provided fans with a unique look into the life of the man behind the cherished Schuks persona.
Schuster’s two failed relationships
Schuster disclosed that he has had two significant relationships, each spanning around two decades.
He was married to the mother of his four children; however, they divorced in 1999. His subsequent long-term partnership also concluded with a separation. Looking back on his romantic experiences, Schuster acknowledged that they made him wary of diving into another serious relationship.
“I had two major relationships in my life. The one I married, we were married for 20 years and divorced. And the other one I didn’t marry, and we went out for 20 years and separated,” he said.
This came after a humorous exchange with Manas, who inquired about his romantic endeavors.
Initially, Schuster seemed annoyed by the question, indicating that it was a sensitive topic and jokingly suggested ending the conversation. This simply served to heighten the humor when he later revealed he had been playing one of his signature pranks.
“You know what? You’ve been schuksed!” he told Manas. The presenter was left awestruck before they shared a laugh and embraced over the surprising turn of events.
