Dhladhla, who worked as a call centre agent at Cartrack’s Rosebank offices, tragically passed away after collapsing in a bathroom at the company’s Johannesburg location on Saturday. Her passing quickly became a focal point of national discourse, leading to close examinations of workplace health and safety protocols and raising challenging questions regarding employer responses to employee health issues.
The incident spurred public concern and triggered political action, with members of the African National Congress Youth League staging a march outside Cartrack’s offices on Thursday, demanding accountability and justice for the deceased employee.
In the wake of her death, family members and colleagues claimed that Dhladhla had been facing severe fatigue and health problems. They indicated that she had submitted two medical notes in the weeks leading up to her death, yet her requests for sick leave were allegedly denied.

In a reflection of the family’s desire for unity, they have invited Dhladhla’s managers and colleagues to attend her funeral.
“We want Cartrack to feel welcome to attend the funeral and to show their support,” expressed her aunt, Phumzile Dhladhla.
