Renowned rapper Cassper Nyovest has publicly responded to the allegations regarding his late friend, DJ Sumbody. The rapper addressed suggestions that he was aware of the alleged criminal activities of the deceased artist.
During a session with Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi validated the reasons behind Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe’s alleged motive for killing DJ Sumbody, reinforcing the police’s position on the investigation. On Monday, 15 June 2026, Cassper Nyovest echoed the statement issued by DJ Sumbody’s family in response to claims regarding the circumstances of the producer and club owner’s killing.
Cassper Nyovest remarks on DJ Sumbody’s death
On that same day, Cassper Nyovest reacted to an X user who implied that he was aware of DJ Sumbody’s alleged associations with drug traffickers and unethical politicians. The post read:
“One of your closest friends, DJ Sumbody, was in bed with drug lords and corrupt politicians, and you’re pretending like you don’t know anything.”

In his reply, Cassper Nyovest dismissed the accusation and asserted that he was unaware of any alleged wrongdoing involving DJ Sumbody or the events surrounding his demise. He characterized DJ Sumbody as a gifted artist and a dedicated entrepreneur, adding that he was just as taken aback as many South Africans by several of the claims that surfaced following his friend’s death. “Like I said, half of the time I’m just as shocked as you about the news. I know nothing about DJ Sumbody’s alleged dealings or his death. I knew him to be a talented DJ and an ambitious entrepreneur, but you don’t believe me, right? Something always has to be fishy with success.”

Additionally, social media users brought back an old tweet from DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka, following a report connecting his murder to a violent dispute stemming from a missing drug shipment from police custody in Durban.
In the resurfaced tweet, Sefoka dismissed a netizen’s comment suggesting that he had engaged in sacrificial rituals for his career’s success. He humorously denied these claims, asserting that his achievements came from his dedication to music. The post stated:
“Just had to post this one, he is asking me if I kill people for money. I am just a DJ. Music is my life.”
