Soa Mattrix, a prominent Amapiano producer, has shared insights into the hurdles he encountered on his way to becoming one of South Africa’s leading music creators. He revealed that there were moments he contemplated stepping away from music altogether.
Known as Mandla Mashakeni and hailing from Diepkloof in Soweto, Soa Mattrix has established a remarkable career, marked by dedication and a strong belief in his artistic vision. He is celebrated for his role in crafting some of Amapiano’s cherished tracks, such as “Mina Nawe,” “Idlozi Lami,” and “Umama Akekho.” However, the path to his achievements was filled with challenges.
In an interview with Daily Sun, the producer reflected on his journey, acknowledging that there were instances when the challenges felt overwhelming.
“It wasn’t easy. It was full of ups and downs. At some point, I feel like every artist goes through this. It gets to a point where, when things aren’t working out for some time, you get that feeling of giving up,” he stated.
Despite these tough times, Soa Mattrix credited his spirituality and a positive outlook as vital factors that enabled him to navigate his struggles. He emphasizes the importance of self-affirmation and maintaining hope during adversity.
“But if you’re a very spiritual person like me and you pray and you talk to yourself, because the only way to give yourself power is to speak life and positivity into yourself. I think that’s going to save you,” he added.
Today, Soa Mattrix stands as a prominent figure in the Amapiano genre, and he notes that his success brings with it a unique set of pressures. Instead of measuring himself against his peers, he concentrates on surpassing his own prior accomplishments.
“I do have a little pressure because it’s not a pressure of maybe my song needs to be better than someone else’s song. It’s a pressure that I need to compete with myself,” he explained.
The producer shared that each time he steps into the studio, he aims to outdo his past work. This attitude has kept him driven and continuously evolving as an artist.
Fans can expect new music, as Soa Mattrix announced he is in the process of creating a new album. This project will feature 15 tracks and aims to highlight both established and emerging artists.
“It’s people who know music. Some you may know, but some you may not know because I believe so much in working with new people who have a different energy,” he said.
Though he has not disclosed the names of the featured collaborators, his eagerness for the album is evident. Given his previous work, this new project is poised to be another significant achievement in his impressive career.
