Cassper Nyovest’s ‘Kusho Bani’ makes history on Spotify
Cassper Nyovest has proven his skeptics wrong with the phenomenal success of his track Kusho Bani, which is now recognized as the most-streamed South African hip hop song globally.
<p Released on 7 February 2025, the song faced significant backlash initially, with some detractors labeling Mufasa a “has-been” and questioning his current relevance in the cultural landscape.
As reported in Spotify’s Global Impact List, Kusho Bani has garnered more than 5.7 million streams and is among just two South African hip hop tracks listed in the top 30, surpassing Yanga Chief’s What If? (Mngani) at position 27.
The entertainment analyst Phil Mphela further validated this achievement on 18 August by announcing via X that Cassper’s hit made it onto the coveted chart.
This milestone reinforces Mufasa’s enduring influence in a music scene increasingly dominated by Amapiano, where DJ Maphorisa is at the forefront with numerous tracks, while Tyla holds the top three positions with her international hits Bliss, Show Me Love featuring WizTheMc, and Bees & Honey.
Apart from streaming success, Kusho Bani gained traction through its viral dance challenge, prompting participation from global celebrities like Serena Williams.
The track’s worldwide resonance has sparked renewed discussions on Cassper’s significance in the South African hip hop scene, with many supporters labeling him the greatest rapper in the nation.
One fan succinctly expressed on social media: “You can say what you want about Cass, but the charts don’t lie. He’s still number one.”
