MOPANI: A collaborative effort known as Operation Shanela II, carried out by Hoedspruit SAPS alongside immigration officials, Farm Watch structures, and E2 Security companies, has achieved notable successes in combating crime and illegal immigration within the Hoedspruit policing area.

The operation took place from Friday, 15 May 2026 at 20h00 until Saturday, 16 May 2026 at 05h00.
During this period, law enforcement officials apprehended a total of 80 individuals for various offenses and immigration-related issues.
Among those detained, 46 were identified as illegal immigrants, and 30 were recognized as juveniles. Immigration authorities also confirmed the validity of six passports during the operation.
Additionally, one illegal shebeen was shut down, and there was one arrest related to the possession of dagga.
To enhance crime prevention and visibility, police and law enforcement teams carried out multiple operational activities, including three Vehicle Check Points (VCPs), two stop-and-search operations, and patrols in suspected hot spots.
In total, 100 vehicles and 200 individuals were searched, and 12 vehicles underwent testing.
Operational teams also conducted patrols in various locations, including shopping complexes, liquor outlets, filling stations, taxi ranks, spaza shops, farms, schools, banks, health facilities, and villages within the designated policing area.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed support for the arrests made during the operation.
